August 21st 2011 ~ 1st lost tooth

It was Sunday night at 9:30 and Avery was hungry for a bedtime snack.  She is often very hungry at night time despite being my only child who cleans her plate, gets dessert and a bedtime snack each night.  So, we have told her that she is allowed to come down and get fruit for a snack at anytime.  She came down for an Apple.  She took a bite put of it and said, "Oh my gosh, my tooth is really really loose."  I said, "Well, let's get that little thing out finally!"  We spent a good amount of time tugging and pulling and wiggling.  I get kind of skeeved out by anything teeth related so my version of wiggling is lightly pushing it backwards and forwards.  I am too much of a chicken to actually yank it out.  Good thing my child is a totally independent little thing who told me to leave her alone so that she could do it herself.
A half an hour later after numerous attempts, a lot of giggling and a finally eaten apple, the tooth came out!
She was so excited to finally have a missing tooth.  We her 6th birthday being in the summertime, she was the last of her classmates to have lost a tooth.  Her friend Brynna gave her a tooth fairy pillow for her birthday which hangs on her bedpost.  So, we brought the tooth upstairs and tucked it into it's little place so that the tooth fairy would know just where to find it.
Brynna's mom makes these pillows and since Brynna is six and has lost quite a few teeth, her mom is running out of friends who need them.  If you would like a pillow please let me know and I can get you in touch with Angie.  She custom makes these pillows and no two are the same.  They are absolutely adorable!

Avery put her little tooth into the front green pocket and drifted off in hopes of waking up to a surprise from the tooth fairy.  She woke up and had $2.00 left in place of her tooth.  She came downstairs with her dollar bills and a grin as wide as the Mississippi on her face.  She was ecstatic!  It was a very sweet moment.

We are not sure what the going rate is for the tooth fairy.  I cannot believe there even is a "going rate."  We discussed it because we both have different idea's about things.  I thought that the tooth fairy should bring more for a first tooth and then $1 for each tooth thereafter.  I do have friends who's kids have gotten $10 from the tooth fairy!  Yowza!  Chadd was outraged at that price and made a great point.  Kids these days are spoiled rotten and a tooth is a tooth.  You should be able to buy candy or a little trinket with tooth fairy earnings, but the idea that you could buy a game for your DS just because you lost a tooth says something crazy about our society.  I had to agree.  So, our kids will more than likely be getting a silver dollar for each tooth that they lose per our strict orders to our tooth fairy ;)  I will tell you this much, my child was beyond excited about the $2 that the tooth fairy left her and I hope that it stays that way.

I am sure that it won't be long until tooth #2 comes loose and the tooth fairy will return for a visit.  Avery looks hilarious with one missing tooth.  It is funny how much your look can change without a tooth in place.  If she is anything like me, she will have missing teeth for a long while before the big girl teeth start growing back into place.  I think that I lost my front two teeth the summer before 1st grade and I was wishing for them to grow in at Christmas.  You know that old song, "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth."  I sang it...a lot!  I have visions of singing this song now with my 6 year old this Christmas and I cannot help but smile.  I wonder what she will look like with all four front teeth missing?  Stay tuned :)
