Well, it is finally here. Race week. I have trained for this Triathlon for twelve weeks now, vigilantly following the recommended training for first time triathletes. I feel prepared and ready and I cannot wait until Sunday to prove to myself that I can do anything that I set out to do. Knee problems, swimmers ear, strep throat: you all tried to hold me back but to no avail. Now, I say watch this and get lost!
Our race information was sent out to us via email. Since there are over 1000 women registered to do the Triathlon, we all take off in "waves". We are in the buddy wave, which means that we all get to start together and have our bikes racked on the same pole in the transition area. Our wave does not begin until second to last which is good to know so that we can tell people who do not want to be there for the entire race when to show up to see us cross the finish line. My race number is 998 and one of my team members, Jenn, has # 1000. Pretty neat if you ask me.
I was unsure of what I was going to wear for the actual TRI. There are really a lot of options, but I had a weekend to browse at the stores and I decided that TRI shorts and a TRI top were really the way I wanted to go. I got some awesome deals at Gear West which is the store that is partnered with the YWCA TRI. That place is like a bike riders mecca. It was fun to see all of the neat(and totally unnecessary)things that you can buy to gear up and make for a smooth ride.
This weeks training schedule is very very light. It calls for one swim, one bike, and one run. All of these are smaller than race length to keep your muscle memory up but to not tire you out or injure you this close to go time. All of this makes sense to me and I am so glad that they offered up this schedule for me to follow otherwise I would have been clueless!
Packet Pickup will be this Friday. I am sure once I am holding my numbers and swim cap in my hands that I will start shaking in my boots a little bit, but hey, nervousness is good in small doses :)
Here's to an awesome experience and hopefully an amazing day on Sunday!
Best of luck, Amber! You have worked SO hard and I just know ou will do awesome! Can't wait to hear all about it!
